This high blood sugar produces the classical symptoms of polyuria (frequent urination), polydipsia (increased thirst) and polyphagia (increased hunger).<\/p><p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"style32\">Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas and its main role is to check the levels of glucose in the blood.<\/span><\/p><ul type=\"disc\"><li class=\"style32\"><strong>Type\u00a01 diabetes:<\/strong>\u00a0results from the body&#8217;s failure to produce insulin, and presently requires the person to inject insulin. (Also referred to as\u00a0<em>insulin-dependent<\/em>\u00a0diabetes mellitus,\u00a0<em>IDDM<\/em>\u00a0for short, and\u00a0<em>juvenile<\/em>\u00a0diabetes.)<\/li><li class=\"style32\"><strong>Type\u00a02 diabetes<\/strong>: results from insulin resistance, a condition in which cells fail to use insulin properly, sometimes combined with an absolute insulin deficiency. (Formerly referred to as\u00a0<em>non-insulin-dependent<\/em>\u00a0diabetes mellitus,\u00a0<em>NIDDM<\/em>\u00a0for short, and\u00a0<em>adult-onset<\/em>\u00a0diabetes.)<\/li><li class=\"style32\"><strong>Gestational diabetes<\/strong>: is when pregnant women, who have never had diabetes before, have a high blood glucose level during pregnancy. Increased thirst i.e. polydipsia.<br \/>2. Dry mouth.<br \/>3. Loss of weight.<br \/>4. Irritability &amp; fatigue.<br \/>5. Blurring of vision.<br \/>6. Headaches.<br \/>7. Frequent infections.<br \/>8. Non-healing wounds.<\/p><p class=\"style32\">Impotency in men and frequent vaginal infection in female. Diabetes affects really all the system. If not controlled it affects &#8211;<br \/>i) Blood vessels of eyes- causing damage i.e. retinopathy.<br \/>ii) In arteries causes fat deposition which reduce blood supply to distant parts.<br \/>iii) In case of injury &#8211; it causes infections which may lead to gangrene.<br \/>iv) Kidney is also affected i.e. nephropathy.<br \/>v) Heart is also affected with uncontrolled diabetes. E.g. Hypertension, heart attack, CAD.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0a6f628 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0a6f628\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">DO'S AND DON'TS<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e32a194 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e32a194\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"style32\">Follow your physician\u2019s advice regularly and have a regular follow-up.Do not stop or alter medication on your own.<\/span><\/p><ol><li class=\"style32\">Avoid sugar \/ and things which have an increased sugar content Avoid alcohol, smoking.<\/li><li class=\"style32\">Avoid high calories diet e.g. oil food, buttered food etc.<\/li><li class=\"style32\">Exercise regularly. Walk at least for 45 minutes daily. Maintain your optimum weight &#8211; reduces chances of Diabetes Have lots of Salads instead of oily food. While going out, take a packet of biscuits with you. If you feel giddy then have 1 or 2 biscuits.<\/li><li class=\"style32\">Take extra care for your foot. In case of any bruise of cuts, blisters swelling see your doctor immediately. Cut t nails regularly. Do not walk bare footed. Wear good padded footwear. Do not take appetite suppressants to control your weight. They increase blood sugar levels. Fish oil also increases blood sugar levels.<\/li><li class=\"style32\">Nutrition and Diet in Diabetics.<\/li><li class=\"style32\">Low calorie and low fat diet.<\/li><li class=\"style32\">Avoid oily foods.<\/li><li class=\"style32\">Have plenty of salads.<\/li><li class=\"style32\">Avoid vegetables which grow underground, e.g. potatoes, onions. Fruits like Chikoo, mango, bananas should be avoided and in any case don&#8217;t have the whole fruit but have a single slice in a day.
